Frank van Mierlo is the CEO of 1366 Technologies, a US-based manufacturer of silicon wafers, the building blocks of solar panels. 1366’s invention, the Direct Wafer® process, produces wafers for half the cost of the conventional process, using just 1/3 the energy. The company is widely considered one of the most innovative in energy and has been recognized as a finalist by the Zayed Future Energy Prize; a Fast Company Most Innovative in Energy; a Bloomberg New Energy Pioneer; and one of MIT Technology Review’s “50 Smartest Companies in the World.” Frank has more than 25 years of experience in sales, marketing, business development and engineering at leading technology companies across the globe. Prior to his work with 1366 Technologies, he was the co-founder and CEO of Bluefin Robotics Corporation, where he achieved double-digit sales growth and successfully managed the sale of the company to Battelle in 2005. Frank holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from MIT, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford and a Master of Business Administration from INSEAD.
